Known as The Giver of Life, Salmon is an important and vital food source for the people of the Northwest Coast and accordingly always treated with great respect. Often it is the crest figure for twins and is depicted with no teeth, but frequently with the hooked upper jaw associated with spawning salmon.
Anthony Joseph is a Coast Salish artist and resides with the Squamish Nation in British Columbia. Born into the Eagle Wolf Clan, Anthony is the youngest of eight brothers, all of whom are traditional carvers. Anthony’s art reflects the beauty of his surroundings and the artistic traditions of his family. The art of Anthony Joseph is reproduced in collaboration with the artist and royalties are paid to the artist on each item sold.
The Royal Museum Shop is operated by the Royal BC Museum Foundation. All proceeds from the sale of merchandise go directly towards supporting the many fine programs and special events at the Royal BC Museum.
