Description

The authors describe all 39 species of turtles, lizards, snakes, salamanders, frogs and toads living in BC, along with details on their biology, habits, breeding and distribution (maps included). They also cover introduced, accidental and unconfirmed species that may be recent arrivals in BC.

The introductory section contains general information on the biology of amphibians and reptiles, fossil history, snake venoms and amphibian toxins, mating and reproductive behaviour, physical development and metamorphosis, relationships with humans and much more.

Each species is beautifully illustrated and this edition features 60 colour photographs.

About the Authors

Brent Matsuda is a wildlife biologist and environmental consultant in British Columbia. David Green is professor of biology and director of the Redpath Museum at McGill University in Montreal. Patrick Gregory is professor of biology at the University of Victoria. All three have studied reptiles and amphibians in British Columbia for many years.
